An unceasing legacy of luxury and performance, the Bentley brand is undeniably a masterpiece. Established in London in 1919, the eponymous brand was founded by W. O. Bentley. Based on the simple policy to ‘make a fast car, a good car, the best in its class’, the car brand lives on 100 years later, keeping to the exact same ethos it began with.
Constantly innovating, Bentley motors pioneers innovation, luxury and performance to become the most powerful and most sustainable cars in the world. Now one of the most expensive cars globally, Bentley has become an icon. But what exactly sets it apart from the rest?
Bentley’s luxury car materials
In 1913, W. O. Bentely discovered a paperweight made of aluminium; wondering whether it would make for a better piston than steel or cast iron, he experimented with creating a new alloy at a foundry. Finally settling on a formula of 88% aluminium and 12% copper, W. O . Bentley created a car that was molded like no other, with a mixture of materials that were previously undiscovered.
Using this formula of metals means that the car is constructed out of the finest materials that mold together to create a metal mix that keeps the car lightweight whilst also staying strong and sturdy. Meeting and exceeding all the requirements for safety, durability and stiffness, the Bentley is still 85 kilograms lighter than a body made entirely of steel, making it quick, agile and light.
Using materials from all over the world, Bentley cars are assembled in Germany using only the finest wood, metal and stone, creating a sleek and sharp exterior with a shape that is noticeable from anywhere.
Luxurious Bentley interior
The interior of a Bentley can perhaps be considered even more extravagant than its exterior. Featuring the finest wood, Bentley ethically sources its car veneers from trees from across the world, in order to ensure that their practices and materials are sustainable.
As an example, their Liquid Amber veneer comes from the American red gum tree that is sourced from the Mississippi wetlands. However, to ensure that they do not harm the planet in the process, Bentley only uses a red gum tree that has fallen, and in order to keep the wetlands thriving, they will always plant a new tree in its place.
In some cases, Bentley uses truly iconic and innovative methods to create unique interiors. In their XP 100 GT, Bentley uses reclaimed fossilised oak from peat bogs in their veneers. As the wood was full of holes, knots and other imperfections, copper was used to smooth it out, creating a gorgeous blend of old wood and new metal.
The powerful Bentley engine
The Bentley brand not only conveys class, elegance and beauty, but also power and performance. The Bentley engine is dynamic and impressive. Put together by the hands of experts, the Bentley engine surpasses mainstream cars. Usually producing around 100-400 pounds of torque, the 2020 Bentely Bacalar surpasses this by creating 667 pounds of torque.
The engines within the Bentley models are made especially to fit into the car appropriately, making them exclusive and a valuable asset to each vehicle.
